streetlight in-store on 1/24

So between you and me, we’re playing Streetlight in San Jose on 1/24 and I’m really looking forward to kicking the shit out of you.

It’s gonna be a big day for us. We’re gonna play a few new songs and I’m gonna play a couple of acoustic songs as well. We have some nice surprises in line and I’m really looking forward to playing. It’s always fun to unleash John, and you’ll get to see and hear our shiny new bass player.

Last week we had our first practice since finishing tracking on the album, and I’ll be honest with you. We sucked mad balls. But every band has one of those when they’ve been apart for a while. We had another practice yesterday and we slayed. So go ahead and raise your expectations as high as they can get. We’ll still kick your ass.

Tell your friends and come on out to see the show. It’s Serenity Now!, all ages, free, and in a room filled with used vinyl. It gets no radder.

And hey, we just might have a few copies of the new album by then. See you soon.

Love,
Erik

Next Saturday, 12/13, I’ll be a guest on a cool podcast called Three’s Company, where I’ll talk a bit about the new album and all other goings-on in the world of Serenity Now!. The podcast is live starting at 8pm Pacific/11pm Eastern and you can also snag the show on iTunes.

Keep your eyes peeled, we’re getting ready to play some shows (hit us up if you wanna play a show together) and preparing for other big things.

As for the album, I hate to sound like Axl but we’re still mastering. I promise you won’t have to wait 12 years for this one.

Hope you’ve been enjoying “Folks Like Me.” It’s up on facebook, myspace, iLike and last.fm. It’s a little bit of a departure but it’s something I’d like to do more often down the road. More to come soon so keep checking back for updates and new tunes.

Talk soon, and check out that podcast next week. It’s gonna be a good time.

Love,
Erik

An incredible amount has happened in the last month or so.  And it went by so quickly, the energy so intense, so heavy, so fast-paced, that I didn’t get a chance to stop and give you any updates.

So what’s new?  We’ve got seven new songs recorded, all of which will go on a new EP, and we got a lot of the fun stuff from the tracking days at Prairie Sun Studios on video for you to see.

A few of our friends have been able to hear the final mixes, and we’ve gotten really positive responses.  The friends with negative responses have been executed, which increases our national approval percentage nicely.

The songs are getting mastered now, and our buddy Dave is working on the artwork for the album and for shirts.  Make sure you’re checking us out on Facebook and Myspace… I just might be posting a song here or there in the next few days…

what’s a life of to sing to a crowd without you?
what’s a dream of to see to the stars over you?

what’s a god of, deprive the world with only one of you?
what’s a light of to brighten the dark just for you?

chorus:
these crazy fucking dreams of mine
i’ll dream them all until i die
i see with kaleidoscope eyes
to bear the truth beneath the lies

what’s a night of to meet the dawn with thoughts of you?
i’ll put tonight off to spend yesterday morning loving you

The bad stuff: We’ve parted ways with bassist Leon Marcelis. Leon’s a good dude, all is still cool between the three of us, and of course, you can still catch him playing with Inruin, Stagnant and Borderwars.

The good stuff: We’ve got a new bassist. Eric Mullin will be coming into the studio with us to record our next release, The Ultimate Trip. Eric is an old classmate of mine who lived right up the street from me. We were both raging jazz band geeks who loved metal, and the transition’s been easy in every way so far. He’s got some good things to show the world and I can’t wait to unleash him. He latched on to the new stuff quickly, fit right into the pocket when we jammed with John, and I didn’t hesitate to give him the stamp of approval.

Soon. You’ll see.

she ain’t mine

another wednesday came and went, it passed me by
like nights of pleading to my savior
she looked at me and sang a song that chilled my spine
almost thought we could be together

just want this feeling all the time
give me this one for all my life
she loved me yesterday but she’ll dream of him tonight
she’s a good, good girl but she ain’t mine

these choices leave the world in pieces wrapped away
one half of life left for the other
now that the bridge is drawn, there’s nothing left to break
don’t know why we can’t have each other

just want this feeling all the time
give me this one for all my life
she loved me yesterday but she’ll dream of him tonight
she’s a good, good girl but she ain’t mine
